Last year, some of our staff shared the ways they celebrate and say goodbye to summer. This year, we turn our attention to how we welcome autumn.
Jeff Brunner: I’ve always loved fall because of the cooler temperatures and changing leaves. But when I got married in October of 2018, I gained a new and wonderful reason to love the autumn. My wife and I eloped at Bonaventure Cemetery, so we like to say that we had thousands of wedding guests, but none of them were living!
Jen Chamberlain: After a busy summer, I’m really looking forward to those cozy, shorter days and that fresh, crisp weather. Apple picking & saucing, autumn hikes, and time to tackle the pile of books on my bedside table!
Andi Coffin: I’m 100% a summer girl, but baking and postseason baseball keep me going while the days get shorter and the weather gets cooler.
Sara Gold: My favorite thing about fall is celebrating my daughter, Lydia, who was born on the first day of fall in 2003.
Erin F.H. Hughes: Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. I love the crisp morning walks, changing leaves, and golden afternoon light that make everything feel a little cozier. Even with the kids back in school and extracurriculars ramping up, fall somehow feels less hectic than summer, which I welcome! We still spend plenty of time outside – camping, walking our neighborhood, and watching the trees and flowers change around the local ponds. We soak up evenings on the porch before it gets too cold to sit out there, and our bookshelves get busier. I love decorating for Halloween, blending my vintage style with my son’s love of all things scary. On Halloween night, I make a special cider to share with our neighbors around a bonfire before we head out for trick-or-treating.
Lisa Marten: We are excited for fall and jumping in our huge leaf piles as well as riding on the pumpkin train at Little Amerricka and all the hay/wagon rides we can get!
