Meet WISCAL: Wisconsin’s Shared Collection For Academic Libraries

WiLS staff

WiLS invites our academic cooperative purchasing members to participate in WISCAL, a collection of ebooks and digital audiobooks on the OverDrive platform, shared by 12 Wisconsin academic libraries. The collection of nearly 1600 titles is used by libraries for a variety of purposes, including to:

  • support campus-wide library reads and book clubs
  • underpin diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
  • enhance current collections of study guides and test prep materials
  • provide recreational reading materials to students, faculty, and staff
  • add digital audiobooks to the library’s collection
  • support specific curriculum areas, such as early childhood and elementary education programs

Included in your participation in WISCAL is full campus-wide access to the shared collection, an optional local collection available only to your users, optional support with collection development and material selection, and a network of other academic libraries cultivating the same collection.

The cost of participation varies by FTE but the average cost per institution for 2022-2023 was $2400. Interested in learning more? Read about WISCAL on our website or connect with us at coop@wils.org.
