GamestormEDU began in 2021 as an effort by Jon Spike, a Wisconsin-based educator with over a decade of teaching experience in K-12 and higher education, to bring innovative educational experiences to anyone and everyone.
GamestormEDU offers educational board and card games that fit perfectly as designed lesson plans, skill-building games during free time, or brainstorming strategies before engaging in maker activities.
Gamestormers, their first game release, enables every student to become a game designer. Players create a 5-card game narrative that they pitch to the other players, practicing creativity, critical thinking, persuasion, and much more. During the game, students also learn game design strategies and mechanics for their own future projects.
As a thank you to his daughter Sloane, who inspired him, Jon made her the main character of the game.
Doomscroll, GamestormEDU’s next game, enables every student to run their own social media platform from the perspective of a company. Players curate addictive feeds, sell the most ads, and recruit influential people to their platform. Through gameplay, students build social media literacy skills related to how companies keep users on screens and what motivates companies running these platforms.
In addition to games, GamestormEDU offers professional development, curriculum, and consulting related to playful learning and engaging activities for the classroom.
